Floor Lamp Tips
- Reading comfort: bottom of shade ≈ seated eye level (about 42–48″ from the floor).
- Overall height sweet spot: 58–64″ total keeps light on the page—not in your eyes.
- Place 8–12″ beside/behind seating; leave ≥15″ for walkways.
- Brightness guide: 800–1100 lumens for reading; 400–800 lumens for ambience.
- Shade swap: linen = softer glow; metal/parchment = tighter beam
- Shade width ≈ lamp body width at its widest (or lamp height ÷ 3 to ½).
- Shade height ≈ 60–70% of the lamp base height.
- Bottom of shade should hide the socket; top sits ~½″ above the harp.
